Sports Massage

Sports Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity.  Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage; it includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (a form of connective tissue that lines and ensheathes the other soft tissues).  Sports Massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma.  The application of Sports Massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

Sessions last 40 minutes.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage derives from the traditional massage therapy first used by ancient civilisations.  It uses the techniques of Swedish Massage and incorporates Deep Tissue Massage methods.  It also utilises manual therapy practices of Osteopathy and Physiotherapy incorporating passive stretching and physical manipulations.

The aim of Deep Tissue Massage is to identify the root cause of a disorder, treat its symptoms and encourage the body's natural healing process.  Deep Tissue Massage aims to improve muscle tension and aid ligament and tendon function by allowing these soft tissues to move freely.  It can also help in cases of injury or chronic muscle tension and can help to break up and eliminate scar tissue and fibre adhesions.

Deep Tissue Massage is extremely beneficial to your health.  When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that leads to a build up of toxins in the muscle tissue.  A Deep Tissue Massage helps loosen muscle tissues thereby releasing and removing toxins from muscles which helps the body to circulate blood and oxygen properly.

All of the techniques used help to correct the body's structure and ease restricted movement.  Its purpose is to “unstick” the fibres of muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of tension, relieving stress while relaxing and soothing the muscle.

Deep Tissue Massage is an essential part of body maintenance as keeping the muscles and soft tissue at their peak will help prevent injuries and help the body maintain its fitness and performance.  As many toxins are released during the massage, it is important to drink plenty of water after a Deep Tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.

Sessions last 60 minutes.
